Writing Competition


What was the cricket writing competition all about?

Open to all young journalists, writers and cricket fans aged 6 to 18! 

Do you like to write news articles about sport, love writing stories? Love Cricket? Why not show us how much you love what you do, excite us with your amazing writing and enter our competition? You could see your work published in the Hastings Observer or win a fabulous prize. 

Send us your entry. Rules are simple: It needs to be about cricket or the Hastings & St Leonards Priory Cricket Club. Poems are at least 120 words, cricket articles / stories / match reports are 350 words and all entries must be less than 500 words. 

We are mad about Cricket and really hope you are too. Not mad about cricket yet?  That's totally cool, give it your best shot and why not do some research about our Club? We have something interesting for boys, girls and grown ups alike. 

How to Enter:

This competition is FREE to enter for 6 to 18 years olds in the UK. There are three categories:

  • 6 to 10 year olds

  • 11 to 14 year olds

  • 15 to 18 year olds

Your piece of work can be about cricket in general, a news article about our Cricket Club or a totally made up story about cricket. It must be your original work. Closing date is 31st March 2020, 5pm

You must not use your own name or family members, your home address or your school in your entry.  This is to ensure our judges can keep things fair, that's all. 

An adult must read the terms and conditions of this competition on your behalf (if you are under 18).

Simply email us your entry to cricket@hastingspriory.com putting 'Cricket Competition' into the subject box.


The email must be sent by an adult on your behalf.

In the email tell us your name and how old you will be on 31st March 2020. You also need to give us the name, telephone number and email address of the adult who as read the terms and conditions and is supporting your entry.
